Recent_Changes is the usual entry point for returning users, and so its configuration can have great effect on community dynamics. In addition to the user-configurable options, there are several options that the admin can set in the configuration file
chiq.cf that you placed in you CGI directory.
- Time Ranges: @recent_changes_ranges
Users can select how many days of recent changes they want to view. @recent_changes_ranges is a list of time range shortcuts that the user will be able to choose from easily. Users may also enter other time ranges in a field that appears after they check "show options".
- Collections of Pages to Highlight: @highlight_title
Certain pages can be highlighted in the list of recent changes. Put in @highlight_title pages containing collections of titles to highlight. Note that only titles in the page opening section will be highlighted (i.e., titles that appear above the first message, and need to be added by editing the page).
- Highlight User's Personal Home Page: $recent_changes_author_name_highlights
Use the user's own Personal_Home_Page as a highlight title (as specified above). This way each user can use her personal page to highlight changes in pages that she cares about.
- Highlight User Specified Pages: $recent_changes_user_highlights
Provide a free text field that lets each user choose her own highlight title (as specified above).
All these settings can be used independently, so you can set them all to be used, or only some, or none at all.
